YOUTH GROUP NEWS -Regular meeting days and times are below the special announcements.
Special Announcements- Thanks to all who walked down Baptist Road and helped carry the cross on Good Friday. You were a great example to others of who we are as a church and as a youth group. April 13- Spaghetti Luncheon fundraiser following the 11 am service. Come for some great food and fellowship. April 18-19- Pure Freedom sexual purity event at South Hills Assembly. It will be fun, not a talk or lecture. There is no cost per youth because of donations from other church organizations. April 26- Car Wash Fundraiser. As long as the weather is nice, this will be the first of many car washes this year. It will go from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. May 2 and 3- "Acquire the Fire" is coming to the Peterson Event Center in Oakland. This is one of the best programs around. Visit www.acquirethefire.com for great information. The cost is $25 per youth. May 18- We may go to a Destroyed Villages Project march and rally downtown from 2-4 P.M. The goal is to show our elected officials that western PA cares about Darfur. This is hosted by The Pittsburgh Darfur Emergency Coalition (PDEC). They ask each participant to donate $10 and carry a sign with the name of one of the 2,751 destroyed villages. For more information on the organization go to www.pittsburghdarfur.org. May 31- Car Wash Fundraiser June 21- Golf Tournament Fundraiser at Seven Springs Golf Course in Elizabeth, PA. More information will announced closer to the event. Visit www.golf7springs.com for information about the golf course. June 28- Car Wash Fundraiser July 20- 24- Those currently in sixth through eighth grade will go on a mission trip called "Mission Discovery" at Grove City College. They will be able to choose from a few different mission oportunities. This is set up by Western PA United Methodist Church's VIM (Volunteers In Mission). July 27- August 2- The high school mission trip will be in Hedgesville, WV with TEAMeffort. The focus will be on building and/or repairing houses. There will be much more information coming, but until then, go to www.teameffort.org to check what we'll be doing. Regular scheduled events- Senior High meets every Sunday of the school year from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. in Room 214. Dunamis (Junior High) meets every Wednesday of the school year from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. in Room 214. One of the ways the youth are contributing to the church is by ushering at the 11:00 A.M. service the third Sunday of every month. These dates for 2008 are: 1/20, 2/17, 3/16 (Palm Sunday), 4/20, 5/18, 6/15, 7/20, 8/17, 9/21, 10/19, 11/16, and 12/21. Any questions regarding events contact Youth Director, Kirk Ferkett at the church (412) 882-9300 #11 or e-mail kferkett@pghbcumc.com What does Youth Group include?The Youth Group is a group of young adults ranging from 12-18 years of age who seek to have a good time while also keeping Christ at the center of their lives. There is a Middle School group that meets throughout the school year on Wednesday nights from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. This group has chosen the name Dunamis, from the Greek word for "power." The High School group meets Sunday nights throughout the school year from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. Both groups meet in the Youth Room, 214. They do many activities, including fundraisers, mission work, raise money for various charities as well as share together in fun and laughter. Our activities include mission trips, a day at Sandcastle Water Park, car washes, movie nights, lock-ins, various charitable walks, collecting and making health kits for the homeless, and many other activities.
