BCUMC was founded to serve the community and continues in that strong tradition. Current community outreach programs include:

Soup Kitchen
BCUMC provides food and volunteer services staff to the New Hope United Methodist Soup Kitchen on the North Side at different times throughout the year. The soup kitchen food is donated and transported by congregation members. BCUMC has provided this assistance for 17 years. For more information or to volunteer see Sherrill Shepler-Platts. This is a wonderful opportunity for service.

Food Pantry
The Lord's Pantry has provided monthly food staples to community residents in need, for over 40 years. Pre-registration and qualification is necessary as supplies are donated, in part, by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The remainder of the donations are from BCUMC members.

Elementary School Tutoring
BCUMC supplies volunteers, coordinated through South Hills Interfaith Ministries (SHIM), to tutor elementary school children on a weekly basis. Tutoring is provided at Whitehall Elementary School or at the community center of a local apartment complex.

United Methodist Women and Methodist Men
The UMW and MM organize and raise money for a variety of missions through annual events such as the Chicken & Ribs Barbecue (13 years), Flapjack Festival (48 years), card party and bazaar.

Christmas Annual Outreach
BCUMC participates annually in the collection of a variety of items needed by residents in the region. The items are collected for distribution to Toys for Tots, Mayview, Methodist Ward Home for Children, Circle C, Lydia's Place, Church of our Savior in Northview Heights and Methodist Union of Social Agencies (MUSA).
